Been wanting to do some fan art of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for a while now. Out of all the new races introduced in the new game, the Kikwi are definitely my favorite. Here, Machi the Kikwi meets my favorite pokemon, Bulbasaur.

Breakdown:

0:04- 0:14 3d creature animation. I was responsible for the flea's movements. In the second shot, I animated the main flea character.
0:15- 0:28 A couple sequences from my thesis film. I created all visual elements for these 2 shots including character animation, bird animation and background illustration.
0:29- 0:34 2d digital character animation. Created visual elements of this piece
0:35- 0:37 traditional animation and effects animation.

This piece is actually a diptych I made in an art trade with a friend. It was lots of fun to work on because I wanted the images to line up when placed both side by side and back to back so its like youre really looking through the portal!

This is the first background painting for this new film. I've been itching to do some fun 2-d character animation so I'm planning to use this for a short motion study of the bigfoot character before continuing on with this production.

Bigfoot character

The bigfoot character for an upcoming animated short. I really love that he seems kinda... well, dopey hahaha. Here I'm trying to find a color scheme that works. I've decided against the red hair because it seems like there are a lot of animated ginger bigfoots out there already.

As far as the project as a whole, I'm getting into designing the backgrounds and doing a second pass on the storyboards.

Just found my set of watercolors that I've been looking for! That means there will probably be more water color sketches here in the future yay.

I did this today at work while I was waiting on renders to finish in After Effects. This began as a warm up gesture drawing that had weird proportions and went with the first thing that came to mind. A robot battle suit. Don't erase bad drawings in your sketchbook, just draw over them! I constantly go back to old pages and draw more on them. Maybe thats why it takes me so long to finish a sketchbook.

Some kind of strange cross between a pit viper and a praying mantis. This one is pretty small but I could imagine a huge one snatching up jungle explorers! Perhaps this is just a baby.

This was more digital painting practice. I'd like to get comfortable using a single tone and textures before I tackle my nemesis, color. Did this painting in just under an hour and a half.

A sketch of a dragon. I'm trying to get myself back into sketching more. So here what will hopefully be the first of many post from my sketchbook. I really liked doing this cause 1) Its a fuckin dragon! and 2) I liked playing around with the textures like scales and the veins in the wing.

Lots goin on recently! First off, Flew the Coop got accepted to the Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder City, Nevada. Sadly I wasn't able to attend that festival either. More importantly! I got hired at Janimation studios here in Dallas, Texas. So far, I'm loving it and learning a ton! So much to look forward to there!!

Also, I just finished this still life charcoal drawing of H.P. Lovecraft's famous monster Cthulhu.

For this I did a dozen quick drawings. It was an hour long pose so thats five minutes per drawing. After I finished one I scooted over and drew from this new spot eventually going all the way around the model to create a rotating figure drawing animation.

I did this last year in a sculpture drawing class at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. This one was probably my favorite drawing I did in that classand then here is a closer view so you can see more detail. Just look at that big round belly!

Trailer Concept Design

These are concept design drawings for a freelance job I just finished. It was for a construction equipment and supply company. This is the side, top, front, and back views of a cement slurry trailer they are creating. My drawings will be sent to engineers to work out how it will actually be built. It'll be pretty cool to see the final trailer once it exists for real.

This is it! My senior thesis film, "Flew the Coop." I've been working on this project for about 2 years. The first storyboard was made in the fall semester of my Junior year. In the spring I decided to animate it as my junior film. It turned out to be way too much work to do in only one semester! I continued the project through the summer and it eventually became my thesis project. I definitely learned A TON of stuff while making this!! Overall I'm super happy with how it turned out, especially the music.
