Steven Universe/Star Wars fan art

I recently started watching Steven Universe and its one of the best animated shows out there. Great characters, interesting story, and it addresses some darker and more grown up themes than you might expect from a show with such a light-hearted tone. I could go on and on about it! You should really just check out a few episodes for yourself.

For these illustrations, I put each character in the costume of Star Wars characters because I see the world through Force colored glasses. These were a lot of fun to do. The name of each piece is the name of a song from the show.

Library Search

I really liked doing this one page comic. Its a bit different from the usual comic panel layout as its all one image and the panels aren't really in order sequentially. I'm not sure what book he was looking for, but I hope he finds it eventually.

Star Wars Portraits

A couple quick portraits I did a while back to get more familiar with charcoal. These were really fun to do!

From the Darkness

According to myth, the raven flew into the darkness of the cosmos and from it brought light into the world.

Red Cliff Map

This is a Tolkien-esque map of the Red Cliff Ascent field where I work. It highlights some major points of interest and landmarks. I used an actual topographical map of the area as reference. Made with ink on watercolor paper dyed with chai tea. (It smells good)

Trollhunter

I recently watched the Norwegian movie, Trollhunter. It was surprisingly amazing! Definitely worth checking out. Heres a troll hunter inspired digital painting.

Now you're painting with portals.

This piece is actually a diptych I made in an art trade with a friend. It was lots of fun to work on because I wanted the images to line up when placed both side by side and back to back so its like youre really looking through the portal!

Final Environment Style

This is the first background painting for this new film. I've been itching to do some fun 2-d character animation so I'm planning to use this for a short motion study of the bigfoot character before continuing on with this production.

Forest Environment Design

These are a few environment designs for a short film idea that I've been workin on and to hone my photoshop painting skills. The top panel also has the bigfoot character from the film! I'll post more of him very soon.

Wee Beastie

Some kind of strange cross between a pit viper and a praying mantis. This one is pretty small but I could imagine a huge one snatching up jungle explorers! Perhaps this is just a baby.

This was more digital painting practice. I'd like to get comfortable using a single tone and textures before I tackle my nemesis, color. Did this painting in just under an hour and a half.
